Kathi Funston

Kathi has a clear, bright voice that soars with feeling and confidence. With an impressive 3 ½ octave range, honed sight singing and improvisational skills, and a wide range of vocal stylings, Kathi is naturally suited for work as a studio musician. She brings superior vocal technique and exciting passion to her work, and she can sing any style of music, ranging from jazz to R&B to classical to rock/pop. Whatever the musical need, Kathi’s voice can easily adapt with impressive results.

"Kathi Funston is a total pro. She is energetic, enthusiastic, has great chops, reads like a demon, and can do a hundred different voices. She's quick, smart, funny and fun. A perfectionist in the best sense. A powerhouse."

- Brian Woodbury, Composer

Kathi currently works as a session singer in Los Angeles.

On Composing For Couch Cases

While shooting Couch Cases, I was inspired by the emotion behind Amy’s resistance to love and her reluctance to accept what was happening to her when she started falling for Nathan. A rush of music came to me during editing, and I began to write “Go On” for the final scene between Amy and Nathan in the cafe.

Recording the score was great. We opened the scene with a beautiful acoustic guitar (played by Patrick, my partner and co-creator of Couch Cases), and from there, built the emotion by layering more instruments and then finally, the vocals. To me, music intensifies the emotional experience of a story, so it was important that we end Couch Cases on the right note, with emotion that resonated.
